There are doubts about the fitness of Inter full-backs Danilo D’Ambrosio and Sime Vrsaljko prior to their opening Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening.

D’Ambrosio came off the field in the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 defeat to Parma in Serie A on Saturday afternoon after what seemed to be an injury to the right knee but a later diagnosis revealed that the 30-year-old had suffered trauma on his right thigh.

There are no muscular lesions on the defender’s thigh but he is not a guarantee to be fit on time for the Spurs game.

The news is worse for Vrsaljko, who is suffering from inflammation in his left knee and there is little indication on when he might return for the Biscione.

“Croatian full-back Sime Vrsaljko is still suffering from pain in his left knee following an issue that resurfaced in Spain vs. Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, having first troubled him during the World Cup quarter-final against Russia,” Inter said on their official website.

“Having been diagnosed with osteocartilaginous inflammation in his left knee, he will now be assessed on a day-to-day basis.”
