Despite turning 49 years old on Wednesday, AC Milan sporting director Leonardo claimed there would be few celebrations, other than the revelling in positive times for the Rossoneri.

With the Diavolo under new management this season, it appears the Milanisti can have renewed optimism that they will once again challenge for Champions League qualification and eventually the Serie A title.

“There is a positive energy around the team and the club,” Leonardo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Everyone is involved, from bottom to top, and that is of great satisfaction. I think it has all been positive up until now.

“They all congratulated me [on my birthday] and I thank them, but there will be no celebration.”

With many expecting former attacker Kaka to join the Rossoneri revolution in an official capacity, the 1994 World Cup winner admitted that there is unlikely to be a formal agreement with his countryman.

“He [Kaka] will be tied to us, but there is no specific assignment,” noted Leonardo. “Kaka is linked to Milan, he represents our history and is the last Ballon d’Or winner [to play for Milan].

“He embodies our style, the way he has approached his career. For the moment he must stay in Brazil, but in the future important things can begin.”
