Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has made it clear he never considered leaving the club, despite links with a move to Inter over the summer.

The Croatian was at the centre of a transfer saga after his stellar performance at the World Cup, with the Nerazzurri reportedly pushing for a move.

While reports suggested Modric had decided to leave for Inter – only for Real Madrid President Florentino Perez to nix a move – the 33-year-old stated he always wanted to stay in Spain.

“My thoughts have always been the same,” he told reporters after being named The Best FIFA Men’s Player for 2018. “I never saw myself leaving Madrid.

“I’d like to end my career with Real, but we’ll have to see what happens in the future.

“It is a very demanding club and you have to go year to year. It all depends on how you play and your performance.”

Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012, and he has since gone on to score 13 goals in 264 appearances for the club.
