Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi is expected to remain sidelined for his team’s fixture against Chievo this weekend after picking up a muscular injury.
The 35-year-old was a notable absentee for the Azzurri during their double UEFA Nations League fixtures against Poland and Portugal.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have confirmed De Rossi is unlikely to take to the field for Roma this weekend, giving summer signing Steven Nzonzi his first opportunity to start for the Giallorossi.
While the extent of his injury doesn’t appear serious, Roma are reluctant to risk fielding De Rossi with a crucial UEFA Champions League fixture against Real Madrid midweek.
Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco has reportedly tested Nzonzi in the midfield three during training ahead of this weekend’s league fixtures.
