Ajax central defender Matthijs de Ligt could be bound for Serie A with Roma and AC Milan understood to have opened talks with the player’s agent, Mino Raiola.

The 19 year-old is among the most highly sought after youngsters in the world, having already chalked up over 50 appearances for Ajax and featured for the Dutch national team.

According to Calciomercato.com, the likes of Juventus and Barcelona have continued to monitor the progress of de Ligt, but both Milan and Roma have made contact over a possible transfer.

Juventus were reportedly prepared to offer as much as €50 million to convince Ajax to part with their talented youngster, who they viewed as an ideal replacement for Medhi Benatia.

However, with the Bianconeri stalling, both Milan and Roma are keen to make the most of the opportunity to exploit their previous dealings with agent Raiola.

Roma have only recently welcomed former Ajax winger Justin Kluivert to the club with the help of Raiola, who also represents Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Giacomo Bonaventura.
