Riccardo Montolivo’s time at AC Milan is nearing an end, with reports suggesting he could leave for Bologna in January.

The 33-year-old is not part of coach Gennaro Gattuoso’s plans, and he was told in no uncertain terms to find a new side during the summer.

Montolivo turned down all offers however, and after talks over a potential contract termination failed to reach a conclusion, it appears Milan are finally set to say goodbye to the former captain in January according to calciomercato.com.

The website reports the midfielder could land with Bologna, who are ready to give the former Atalanta youth product a new lease on life.

It remains unclear what the terms of a deal would be, but what is certain is that Montolivo won’t feature for the Rossoneri anytime soon.

Montolivo joined Milan on a free transfer from Fiorentina in 2012. He has since gone on to score 10 times in 158 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions.
