Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco insisted that his side still had much work to do to reach their potential after sealing a 2-0 win at Empoli on Saturday.

Edin Dzeko’s late strike followed Steven Nzonzi’s first goal for the club since joining from Sevilla in the summer, although the Giallorossi were let off the hook when Francesco Caputano missed a penalty at 1-0.

The victory sees Roma extend their winning streak to four matches in all competitions after a poor start, but Di Francesco warned that more was required.

“We are still missing something to make us great at the moment,” the former Sassuolo tactician declared in his press conference at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

“We are working on this and cannot change our season with a magic wand, even if it is fundamental to win certain games. We were too casual today and must learn from mistakes made, especially in the second half.”

Nzonzi rose highest to break the deadlock with a smart header, and Di Francesco praised the French World Cup winner.

“He is getting better, especially with his movement in midfield. I liked his positioning in the first half much more than the second, but it was important in the victory.”

The victory sees Roma rise to third in Serie A ahead of the international break.
