Fresh from mauling Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League in midweek, Roma return to the domestic front with a visit to Empoli.

Edin Dzeko ended his goal drought with a hattrick in that 5-0 win and leads the line once more, in front of Stephan El Shaarawy and Cengiz Under.

Daniele De Rossi returns from injury to join Steven Nzonzi and the in-form Lorenzo Pellegrini in midfield,

Meanwhile, hot prospect Luca Pellegrini replaces Aleksandar Kolarov at left-back, with Davide Santon returning on the opposite flank.

Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli spent much of his career behind the scenes at Roma, including a stint as caretaker, but he is short of options at the back against his former club.

Experienced duo Luca Antonelli and Manuel Pasqual sit it out through injury, though Afriyie Acquah returns in midfield.

Empoli can count on goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano, who impressed against AC Milan and has enjoyed a strong start to the season.

Empoli: Terracciano; Di Lorenzo, Silvestre, Maietta, Veseli; Acquah, Capezzi, Krunic; Zajc; Bennacer, Caputo

Roma: Olsen; Santon, Manolas, Fazio, Lu. Pellegrini; Nzonzi, De Rossi; Under, Lo. Pellegrini, El Shaarawy; Dzeko
