The passport of former AC Milan owner Yonghong Li has been confiscated, with the businessman banned from leaving China due to debt problems.

During the summer, the 49-year-old left the San Siro due to being unable to repay the loan from the Elliott management group, thus ceding control of the club to the hedge fund.

According to various media reports in China, the Jingzhou People’s Court have issued an order preventing Li from leaving the country and have even seized his passport due to further money problems.

It comes as a result of Li being found guilty in court of not paying back an €8 million loan to the Hubei Jingjiu Investment Company, leading to him being barred from leaving the country for the foreseeable future.

Sohu.com claim that the loan dates back to 2014, meaning that those monetary problems were hanging over his head in April 2017, at the time he purchased the club from Silvio Berlusconi’s Fininvest.
