Aware of the responsibility he holds as AC Milan coach, Gennaro Gattuso has admitted that it does leave him feeling a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

A successful midfielder during his playing days with the Rossoneri, ‘Rino’ returned in 2017 as coach of the Primavera side, although he was bumped up to the top job following the sacking of Vincenzo Montella.

In an interview with UEFA, Gattuso opened up on his passion for the club and the pride he feels at being such an important part of the Milan machine, although did confess that it has led to him feeling the strain of his job even more so.

“For me, throughout my time here as both a player and a coach, Milan is like a family because I grew up among the Milanese and have always supported Milan,” he said.

“It has always been a dream of mine to be at this club. But there is a problem in that every time I go onto the field as a player, and now onto the bench today as a coach, I feel a tremendous weight.

“I do feel a lot of pressure, I really live it during games, and that isn’t easy, although I know it is a special feeling because sometimes I feel a lot of responsibility here.

“It is a dream to be here though. I feel like the president, the goalkeeper and much more when I work for this club.”

Gattuso has now been part of the Diavolo for almost 15 years between his playing and coaching career.
