Often a divisive figure away from the field, Mauro Icardi has expressed his gratitude to Inter for helping him to grow as a person since arriving at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Icardi’s ability on the pitch has never been questionable, but his antics away from the field have consistently left supporters frustrated and critics with plenty to use as ammunition against him.

“Inter have given me so much,” he said to Inter TV.

“They helped me to grow as a player and as a person.

“I arrived as a boy at 20 and I can only thank Milan and Inter for the life I have now.”

The Argentine No.9 went on to praise the club, saying that his children are admirers of ‘Amala’ – the Nerazzurri’s song – and they play it on their phones regularly.

“The San Siro in a word is spectacular and playing there is always beautiful,” he said, “I love it when they sing Amala.

“My children sing it all the time and they have it on their iPod.

“Now, Francesca and Isabella have learnt it.”
