In the wake of his side’s last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp admitted his side did not deserve anything from the match.

The Reds fell to a stoppage-time Lorenzo Insigne goal to leave the Stadio San Paolo empty-handed in the Group C encounter, with Napoli enjoying the bulk of possession and ensuring Liverpool did not have a single shot on target.

Klopp conceded that his side did not meet pre-match expectations, and relied on former Roma goalkeeper Alisson to keep them in the game until the dying moments.

“We wanted to win, we made some mistakes in the game and we reacted badly in some defensive situations,” the German tactician declared in his post-match press conference.

“We didn’t create a lot of chances and the second half wasn’t good enough. A big part of that performance is my fault. I need one night to watch it over again.

“It’s always a bad sign when you have to say your best player is your goalkeeper, but it was obvious tonight.”

Liverpool take on Red Star next in Group C, having already defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the opening round of matches.
