AC Milan sporting director Leonardo confirmed that the club were considering a move to bring former forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the Stadio San Siro in the summer.

The 37-year-old Swede left Manchester United for Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy in March, but was linked with a return to Milan, having scored 56 goals in 85 appearances for the club between 2010 and 2012.

With Leonardo joining fellow Rossoneri great Paolo Maldini behind the scenes over the summer, the Brazilian confessed that the duo had contemplated bringing Ibrahimovic back.

“You should ask Maldini about Ibrahimovic! He [Ibrahimovic] is very close to Milan, and Milan is very close to him,” Leonardo told Sky Sport Italia.

“There was a little thought of him, maybe something even more than that, when I first arrived here. He’s an extraordinary player but now there is no possibility of a return.”

Ibrahimovic departed Milan for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012, having lifted Serie A and the Suppercoppa Italiana with the Diavolo.
