For many years, Silvio Berlusconi spent lavishly on building a team with the best players in the world at AC Milan, but now the Monza patron is focused on creating a squad that can earn promotion to Serie A with young Italians.

The 82-year-old purchased the Serie C club in September and not only does he intend to create a team with Italians only, he also wants players to become role models and not have tattoos or beards.

“We got Monza to make a model team and club, to invest in the search for youngsters in all of Italy,” Berlusconi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We would like to have a starting line-up filled with youngsters, naturally all Italians, with certain rules that by now football does not consider anymore.

“Monza are a team that will be presumably reinforced to be able to do well, jump from C to B and who knows, maybe also in Serie A.

“What had pushed me to say yes to the acquisition of Monza was the idea of giving life to a new way of being footballers and playing football.”
