After making way at AC Milan following the club’s revolution since their summer takeover, former director Massimiliano Mirabelli has opened up on his time at the club, including revealing his only regret.

The ex-sporting director made way during a summer of change and upheaval at the San Siro, which included the Elliott group taking over at the club.

Although he has few regrets about how things panned out, he acknowledged that he should not have signed goalkeeper Antonio Donnarumma, seemingly a move to appease his brother and keep him happy and at the club.

“It was 15 months of hard work at Milan, all lived in a whirlwind, in a single breath. Living in that world every single day at Milan isn’t for everyone but it was beautiful,” he told 7Gold.

“I’m honoured and proud to have been part of the history of this great club, albeit for a short time. What do I regret? Unfortunately, I had in my mind to unite the Donnarumma brothers but because of how it went, I regretted it and wouldn’t do it again if I had the chance.”

Mirabelli also wanted to publicly give coach Gennaro Gattuso special praise and after he took a gamble on him following Vincenzo Montella’s sacking, believes that he has now already established himself as an elite coach.

“I believed in him. Rino, who was a great champion, immediately forgot about what he did as a player and at Milan, we not only saw his grit and strength but his coaching skills and how innovative he is,” Mirabelli added.

“As a coach, he is greatly underestimated. He’s one of the best in the world. I watched us play beautiful football with him and he changed Milan from top to bottom. He didn’t just do good, he did very well.”
