Parma got a fantastic away win at Genoa, coming from behind to score three and win 3-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, picking up their fourth win in the last five outings.

Krzysztof Piatek scored again to break the deadlock after just five minutes, but the visitors then scored three in quick succession – with Luca Rigoni, Luca Siligardi and Fabio Ceravolo on the scoresheet.

The Grifone started off the better side, scoring immediately and using the wingers very well to push Parma in their own half under a lot of pressure. The early goal made Genoa switch off, though, and Parma took advantage.

The Crociati scored three in 15 minutes to go two goals clear before VAR disallowed a Domenico Criscito goal after he and the fans had already celebrated just before half time.

Genoa needed a quick reaction in the second half but instead crumbled, conceding chances to Parma and creating hardly anything offensively. It is step back for the Grifone after two consecutive wins, and with many difficult games coming up after the international break, things could become more difficult.

WINGS ARE THE KEY

The key for Genoa’s start was the great work on the wings by Darko Lazovic and Pedro Pereira, with the former also getting the assist for the opening goal. They managed to push Parma into their own half for large chunks of the first half, without creating many clear chances. In the second half, the visitors were able to control the danger from the wings beautifully, giving little space to the Genoa wing backs, who were forced to send in slow crosses from far away. The result was a comfortable second 45 minutes for the visitors, who controlled the game and cruised to victory.

NO GERVINHO, NO PROBLEM

Genoa started brilliantly, but Parma fought back perfectly. Scoring three goals in the space of 15 minutes away from home is truly impressive, showing the spirit of the Crociati. Everyone expected Genoa to have an easy day, especially because the visitors were without their two key men, Gervinho and Roberto Inglese. Not a problem: their replacements got the job done magnificently. Siligardi found the back of the net with a great curling shot, while Ceravolo headed home a perfect cross. It is exactly the kind of thing Gervinho and Inglese would do. A sign that Parma aren’t dependent on their two main strikers.

PIATEK FOR THE RECORD

Piatek is the most talked about striker in Europe as he continues to pursue the record of consecutive games with at least one goal scored. In Serie A it is Gabriel Batistuta who holds it, with 11 games in 1994/95 with Fiorentina. That record was matched by Jamie Vardy with Leicester City in 2015/16 in the Premier League. Piatek is now on seven consecutive matches with at least a goal in Serie A, for a total of nine goals. If you add the four goals scored in the Coppa Italia game, the total is 13 goals in eight games, scoring at least one in every single game. Next up after the break: Juventus, Napoli, Inter, AC Milan and Fiorentina. To beat Batistuta’s record, he’ll need a miracle.
