Despite scorting Luca Rigoni for Parma in their 3-1 win over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, the ex-Grifone player didn’t celebrate because the mutual love between him and his former fans.

He admitted it was a special game, and a very important goal for his current team, but also that he not celebrating was the right thing to do.

“It was very special for me, the fans always loved me and I always loved them,” he told reporters after the game. “It wasn’t easy going behind so early, but we turned things around.

“Genoa are a good team, I have to congratulate my teammates. We had more control in the second half, we got the three points and that’s all that matters.”

Rigoni spoke about his decision not to celebrate his goal, having spent three seasons with Genoa.

“I didn’t celebrate,” he went on. “I thought it was the right thing to do. It was an important goal for us, but I thought it was the right thing. I spent three years in this stadium.”

Parma managed to win despite having Gervinho and Roberto Inglese sidelined with injury, which further underlined the team effort.

“Gervinho and Inglese are very important players for us,” Rigoni added, “but those who played today showed they deserved their spot.

“We know how to sacrifice ourselves, but we showed in midfield we also have quality. We have a lot of points but need to keep focused because Serie A is very competitive.”
