Roma are preparing to reward centre-back Kostas Manolas with a new contract that would crucially amend, or even remove, his current buy-out clause.

The Greece international has been a revelation at the Stadio Olimpico since joining from Olympiakos in 2014, and had drawn interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the past.

Such interest prompted Roma to tie Manolas down to a new deal last year, albeit with a minimum fee release clause of €36 million.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the 27-year-old is keen to commit his future to the Giallorossi and would be willing to significantly increase the clause, or even drop it altogether, in a new contract.

Roma are ready to take advantage of his willingness and are set to begin preparations over an improved deal that would see Manolas’ wages increase and run to 2022.

It is believed that both parties are confident of securing an agreement before the end of the year, with Roma particularly keen to hold on to their defensive star.

Manolas has scored eight times in 180 appearances for the Lupi, including the third and final goal to complete a sensational turnaround and dump Barcelona out of the Champions League in March.
