Inter could be without the services of Matias Vecino for this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan after he picked up an injury on international duty.

The former Fiorentina man was representing his country this week but failed to take to the field for Uruguay against Japan after sustaining a thigh problem and was replaced by Gaston Pereiro.

“Matias Vecino will not be able to take to the field for our friendly against Japan due to pain that he felt in the back of his right thigh,” read a Uruguay statement on their official Twitter account.

It is concerning news for the Nerazzurri and coach Luciano Spalletti given the hectic schedule that is on the cards for his side for the remainder of the month.

In addition to contesting a city derby against AC Milan this weekend, that is followed up with a Champions League meeting with Barcelona and a league clash against Lazio.

Vecino is set to undergo further testing upon his return to Milan but his presence in Sunday’s derby is now in major doubt.
