Roma’s injury crisis has deepened, with midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini facing a race against time to be fit for their Champions League visit of Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Italian international limped off in the final 10 minutes of the Giallorossi’s 1-0 defeat to Udinese in Serie A on Saturday after a knock to his right thigh.

Indeed, the former Sassuolo midfielder is likely to miss out on the clash against holders Real Madrid, with Tuttomercato.web suggesting that youngster Nicolo Zaniolo will deputise in his place.

Pellegrini joins a growing list of injured figures at the Stadio Olimpico, with Daniele De Rossi, Kostas Manolas and Diego Perotti all sitting out the Udinese loss.

However, Javier Pastore and Aleksandar Kolarov returned from recent knocks to be included in the squad, and could feature on Tuesday.

Zaniolo, meanwhile, made his debut for Roma in their Champions League opener against Real Madrid in September, having joined from Inter as part of a deal for Radja Nainggolan to sign for the Nerazzurri.
