AC Milan have set their sights on Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout, with the club’s sporting director Leonardo identifying the Frenchman as an ideal addition for January.

The Rossoneri have reportedly begun negotiations for Chelsea star man Cesc Fabregas in recent weeks and have also expressed an interest in Sassuolo’s Alfred Duncan.

Corriere dello Sport understands Milan could make an attempt to prize Veretout away from Fiorentina in the new year, starting with an initial loan with an obligation to purchase in the summer.

La Viola are unlikely to allow the 25-year-old to leave without a significant return on the €7 million they paid Aston Villa, with the same source suggesting a €25m fee would be sufficient.

Milan have lost both Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura to long-term injury, forcing the likes of Davide Calabria and the seldom-used Jose Mauri into the midfield starting-eleven.

Veretout has made 15 appearances so far this campaign scoring three times, playing a crucial role in his side’s recent 1-0 win over Milan at the Stadio San Siro.
