With Giuseppe Rossi on the hunt for a new club, the former Fiorentina and Villarreal striker is hopeful he will be able to make a return to Italy.

Currently training in New York, the 31-year-old is without a club following his release by Genoa at the end of last season.

“I hope to find a team soon,” he told Sky Sport Italia, “as this is a difficult situation for me. I want to go back to Italy, I still think I have something to offer, and want new challenges and to be part of a team again.

“I’ve been training on my own for five months, its not ideal. I spent three wonderful years with Fiorentina, and had some good times. I have not spoken to anyone there about a return, its not the right time, but in my heart, I root for them.”

Before being released by Genoa, Rossi had three years with Fiorentina before injuries took their toll and he was sent in loan to Levante then Celta in La Liga, before joining the Grifone where me made just nine Serie A appearances.

Rossi was also failed a drug test for the banned substance dorzolamide following Genoa’s match with Benevento on May 12, 2018. He was later given a warning with his lawyer Sergio Puglisi Maraja stating: ”We don’t understand how this substance ended up among Rossi’s foods, there was no intentionality – the line of good faith and consistency prevailed.”
