Liverpool showed Napoli who they really were after an underwhelming performance in their first Champions League meeting, Jurgen Klopp claimed after overseeing their 1-0 triumph on Tuesday night.

The Partenopei ran out comfortable 1-0 victors thanks to a Lorenzo Insigne goal in Naples but this time the shoe was on the other foot as Liverpool were the deserving winners thanks to a Mohamed Salah.

When asked what was different about his side’s two displays against the Partenopei, the German tactician pulled no punches.

“Everything changed, everything changed. I said in the meeting before the game tonight, if the first game we played there was good for anything, it was that they cannot have an idea who we are really because that was not us, that was somebody else,” Klopp told reporters.

“We could have made a six-hour meeting of that game because we made so many mistakes or we could ignore it. We decided to ignore it. We gave the boys the opportunity to do better in the next league game and that’s what we did.

“Then for this game, we did everything tonight we had to do, the boys played an outstanding game.”

Klopp also had special praise for his goalkeeper and former Roma standout Alisson, who produced a fantastic injury time block to deny Arkadiusz Milik the goal which would have sent Napoli through.

“It was not only one save because he had a lot of things to do tonight. How cool and calm he was with the ball helps us a lot in our build-up situations and when he comes out for crosses he is outstanding,” he continued.

“The save was just incredible but if we don’t defend the whole pitch like we defended, Ali cannot make 20 saves like the last one. He did it and it was incredible, unbelievable. I’ve never saw something like it.”
