Following Wanda Icardi’s revelation that Inter had tried to send husband Mauro Icardi to Juventus during the summer, sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has rubbished those comments.

As she attempted to publicly put the pressure on the Beneamata to consider a new contract for her spouse, Wanda also made the claim that in the summer, Inter were keen to push Icardi out in a deal that would bring Gonzalo Higuain the other way.

However, current Inter director Marotta was in fact working on the other side of the divide during the summer as he was still with Juventus and is well placed to offer his own version of events on what transpired, insisting there was no real interest in such a deal.

“There are things that must be respected in delicate phases and negotiations like this. A little more silence would perhaps benefit everyone,” he said before Inter’s Christmas party, admonishing the way in which the Icardi family had attempted to broker a new contract.

“Usually these things are discussed in January and at Inter it will also be like that. In terms of [Icardi to Juventus], there may have been a survey in which something was briefly discussed.

“But Piero Ausilio can also confirm that nobody sat around a table to discuss anything. Icardi remains a high level player but there was never anything concrete in terms of a possible transfer from Inter to Juventus.”

Criticism for the recent public comments aside, the 61-year-old is confident that a deal will be reached soon for a new deal for the Argentina international.

“Ausilio told me that an offer was presented to Icardi in the last few months that he didn’t consider adequate and it was rejected,” revealed Marotta.

“The time has come to meet again but I believe that such negotiations will be carried out at the right time in the right place and in the correct manner. He is an important player, our captain and I think there is will on all sides to get it done so we’re positive.”
