Inter have formally announced the arrival of new sporting CEO Beppe Marotta, with the former Juventus man citing the club’s history and ambition as key factors in him taking the helm.

The 61-year-old left Juventus in October after eight hugely successful years at the club and was immediately paired with Inter, before his move was officially confirmed on Thursday.

With Inter eliminated from the Champions League and trailing the Bianconeri by 14 points in the Serie A title race, Marotta refused to set targets but touched on why he had chosen the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza club.

“I met the club and understood their strong desire to bring success to the fans,” Marotta declared at his official presentation at Inter’s Corso Vittorio base. “There is so much trust in the management and it is up to us to ensure this is repaid.

“There are still many points available and goals can be reached, starting on Saturday against Udinese [in Serie A]. Inter must have an important role in European football and it has great potential.

“This is a strong brand with a history made up of many trophies and players. The love that the fans have for these colours is indelible.

“I want to make my contribution but with no declarations, just a culture of hard work. I must admit that I was surprised by [Inter owners] Suning’s ambition though.”

Marotta, who carried out a similar role at Sampdoria previously, oversaw a period of dominance for Juventus in which the Bianconeri lifted the past seven Scudetti.
