Despite Roma’s disappointing and inconsistent form this season, coach Eusebio Di Francesco is not in danger of losing his job, according to sporting director Monchi.

Although the Giallorossi have moved through to the knockout phase of the Champions League where Porto await, it is their Serie A form which has brought cause for concern and caused anger among supporters.

Prior to Roma’s weekend win over Genoa, the Curva Sud booed the names of all but a select handful of players as they were read out before the game, with the side having slid to seventh after winning just two of their last eight games but the coach shouldn’t fear for his position.

“Is Di Francesco at risk? No, nobody is. I haven’t changed my mind about the coach,” he told Corriere dello Sport upon his arrival in Boston where he will meet president Jim Pallotta.

“This is simply a meeting we have every two months and we aren’t here to decide anyone’s fate. There is no emergency or crisis. We know what we have to do so Di Francesco can be calm.

“Whether he is or not, that isn’t up to me but we will carry on like this. I don’t change my mind about people.”

However, despite the vote of confidence from the Spaniard, La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Lupi are in fact lining up a deal to replace him with former Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa.

He is the man favoured to take over by the Roma hierarchy, according to that report, and they are willing to offer him a six-month deal until the end of the season, with an option for another 12 months which would be triggered automatically if Roma seal Champions League football.
