The wife and agent of Inter captain Mauro Icardi has claimed that the club attempted to convince the striker to join Italian champions Juventus during the summer.

Despite the Bianconeri signing Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer, she disclosed that they wanted to bring in the Argentine to create a deadly duo in Turin, only for Icardi to reject the move.

With the former Sampdoria striker keen to remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Wanda Icardi also revealed that she was keen to secure another new Nerazzurri contract for her spouse.

“I now have to sit and talk to Inter about a renewal, but it isn’t close. There must be a new deal and that is all,” she said in an interview with Tiki Taka.

“It isn’t a question of money either. How much does [Gonzalo] Higuain make, for example? Our priority is only on Inter. The club did contact me in the middle of the Champions League campaign to speak but I told them to wait.

“Last summer, Inter wanted to send him to Juventus but Mauro said no. He refused what would have been more money [to join Juventus]. They tried to convince me that he would be an attacking partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and that he would be their No. 9…”

Icardi recently signed a contract extension to tie him to Inter until 2021 and it is believed that a new deal would see that extended by a further two years in addition to a pay rise.
