Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon believes his former side are favourites to win this season’s Champions League, praising new arrival Cristiano Ronaldo as being the final piece of the puzzle.
Despite departing Turin for Paris Saint-Germain last summer, the Italian goalkeeper retains his fondness for the Old Lady and is backing his former teammates, accompanied by the Portuguese, to go one step further in Europe.
“Juventus are very strong,” Buffon said to MARCA.
“They have been for the last four or five years in Europe, but this year even more so because they have an incredible player.
“He has come into a team that possibly only lacked that last piece. They are a candidate [for the Champions League.”
When pushed to give his favourite to lift the trophy come the season’s end, Buffon could help to side with his former employers.
“Juventus, as a team, are the strongest,” the PSG ‘keeper added.
“In the Champions League nobody can be sure they will win it and there are always three or four stronger teams so winning depends on small details.”
