It hasn’t taken new AC Milan chief executive Ivan Gazidis long to make his mark at the club as he has laid down a transfer window strategy for the club’s board to follow.

Following a summer of big spending in 2017 which ultimately saw the Rossoneri hit with heavy penalties as a result of failing to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, the club are keen to avoid such situations going forward.

A report in Wednesday’s edition of La Repubblica claims that Gazidis has met with sporting director Leonardo and instructed him to follow a new transfer philosophy which is based on two main principles.

The first is that the Diavolo must invest exclusively on young players going forward, with the second caveat being that they must be of sufficient quality but priced reasonably, which will avoid excessive spending in the future.

That new transfer strategy, as indicated earlier this month, also classes ‘young players’ as anyone under the age of 25 and that anyone over that limit will not be signed.

Milan have shown their new plans for the window already this month by bringing in Lucas Paqueta and Krzystof Piatek for a combined fee of €70 million.
