After being presented to the media for the first time as an AC Milan player, Lucas Paqueta admitted that he hopes to replicate his compatriot Kaka’s success at the San Siro.

The former Rossoneri playmaker became one of the world’s best players during his time in Italy, winning the Ballon d’Or award, before departing for Real Madrid.

Paqueta was a big fan of the work that Kaka did in Milan, while also opening up on what particular position he wants to play at his new home and what supporters can expect of him.

“I’m very happy to be here and very thankful for the trust that everyone has shown in me. I want to help this club and I’d like to play in [centre] midfield but I’ll go wherever [Gennaro] Gattuso puts me,” he explained to the assembled media.

“I am a technical player, I move well with the ball and I try to work hard both in and out of possession. I’m an offensive player who wants to be creative and do my best to create chances and score goals.

“It is good to be at the same club as Kaka. He is a great player and is my idol. He was one of the best players in the world and I’m just at the beginning of my career but I hope to follow what he did.

“I spoke with him and he told me all about the club and that I would be welcomed by a real family and I spoke to him about the history of the club.”

Neither that history nor the fact that he is a young player adapting to a new division is something that daunts the 21-year-old and he is already hopeful of making an instant impact.

“It is another style of play I will have to get used to but I want to adapt and help everyone to win games and titles. This is a club with a glorious history,” he continued.

“I’ve already studied many Serie A games and the football is very physical and tactical. In Brazil, it is different but I’ll try to adapt to my best quickly.

“I’ll be attentive to all of the details that others give me and be ready to give my best. I know that I have to adapt quickly to Italian football but I feel ready to enter the field and start scoring and winning.”
