AC Milan goalkeeper Pepe Reina has said goodbye to Gonzalo Higuain, as the Argentine striker closes in on a move to Chelsea.

Il Pipita is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday or Thursday before joining the Blues, with the Rossoneri set to land Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek to replace him.

Reina all but confirmed the striker merry-go-round, stating that while he is losing a teammate, he will remain great friends with Higuain.

“I said goodbye to Higuain with an embrace, it’s always a bitter moment,” he told reporters at a charity event in Milan.

“I wished him all the best and gave him a hug. Unfortunately, this too is football. I am losing a teammate, but retain a great friend.”

Higuain joined Milan from Juventus on loan for €18 million with a €36m option to buy. However, with the deal now being interrupted, the Rossoneri will only end up paying half that amount.
