Inter captain Mauro Icardi could finally be nearing a new contract as a result of club president Steven Zhang to bring an end to the standoff between the player and club.

Both parties have been at odds for some time, with the Nerazzurri appearing unwilling to meet Icardi’s agent Wanda Nara’s initial €8 million annual salary request for the player, which then reportedly rose to €10m.

Inter were willing to offer the Argentine a sizeable increase to €6m per season in addition to attempting to remove his release clause but no meeting has yet taken place between the sides, much to the chagrin of the president.

As a result, Sport Mediaset report that he is ready to step in and intervene first hand in a bid to bring a resolution to the situation by sanctioning a deal worth €7m per season plus bonuses.

In addition, Icardi’s buyout clause will also be set at €180m as part of the contract, an aim to ward off potential suitors or secure massive money for the Biscione if someone is willing to pay it.

The former Sampdoria striker earns €4.5m plus bonuses per season under the terms of his current deal.
