Despite facing 10 men for most of the second half, SPAL could only pick up a point at home to Torino on Sunday but Leonardo Semplici was in positive form afterwards.
Nicolas Nkoulou saw red for a second yellow card but the Biancazzurri couldn’t find a way through the Toro backline.
“We played well,” a content Semplici told journalists at his post-match press conference.
“We showed determination and commitment, we didn’t bend and we managed to pick up an important point for our season. ”
SPAL failed to carve out as many clear-cut chances as they would have liked, and Manuel Lazzari had a quiet game on the wing while nobody in midfield stepped up as a source of creativity.
“It was the right thing to try to win the game but we were too predictable too often,” Semplici added.
“Torino are a strong team but with 11 against 10 we had to try to win the match.
“We tried to push more using [Mohamed] Fares because [Manuel] Lazzari was closely marked today.”
