Despite being knocked out the Coppa Italia by Lazio, Inter boss Luciano Spalletti was sure his team would react well to the defeat in the upcoming games, and expects Radja Nainggolan to show his true form.

After 120 minutes it finished 1-1, as Ciro Immobile broke the deadlock after 108 minutes, then Mauro Icardi gave Inter hope with a final minute penalty. However, in the resulting shootout, Nainggolan missed the decisive spot kick, leaving Lucas Leiva the hero as he stroked home the winner.

“We got to this point without Nainggolan, so there are alternatives to him,” Spalletti told the press.

“But I’m convinced that the player will show his value, unfortunately he has had several injuries and relapses.

“This defeat hurts, and it is annoying how it happened.

“We played well on the field, and in the second half we improved a lot. We created a lot of chances, just as Lazio did.”

The crowd at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza were incensed by the sloppy play from Inter, but the Nerazzurri coach wasn’t too worried about such things.

“We talk about that a lot,” Spalletti went on, “sometimes we manage to come up with some good things, but others get lost in trivial matters.

“Sometimes these things happen. And Sometimes you can make up for it with other qualities.

“The players will all react, no one is happy with a game that has gone wrong.

“Everyone wants to complete their mission. It’s clear that there are some moments when things go bad for you which can cloud the mind a little.

“I am convinced they will react, as they have always done.”
