The ugly spat between Inter and star striker Mauro Icardi continues unabated, with the club preparing themselves to do without the player, who is appealing for a meeting with the president, for the remainder of the campaign.

Icardi, citing ‘fitness’ issues hasn’t played for the club since February 9 when he was substituted late against Parma and stripped of the captaincy days later.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club believe that there is no justification for the 26-year-old’s absence but are nonetheless resigned to the fact that he may have played his last game for the Nerazzurri.

However, Icardi is refusing to listen to the club and has remained at home away from his teammates, reportedly in the belief that the club have pushed for this breakdown in relations in order to facilitate a summer sale.

As a result, he believes he has been disrespected by the club and is demanding a face-to-face meeting with president Steven Zhang to hear an official explanation, with the man in charge set to return to Milan at the end of next week.

There is also a suspicion on the part of the club that Icardi has a deal to join another club in the summer and if those fears are confirmed, they could choose to keep him at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza until the expiration of his contract in 2021.
