After playing for the senior squad for 18 years, Roma midfielder will be leaving the club at the end of the 2018/19 season and he is expected to continue playing outside of Italy.

He made his debut for the Giallorossi as an 18-year-old in 2001 against Belgian side Anderlecht in the Champions League and his career with his hometown club will come to an end against Parma in the final round of the Serie A campaign.

“For 18 years, Daniele has been the beating heart of AS Roma,” Lupi president James Pallotta said on the club’s official website.

“He has always embodied the Roma fan on the field with pride, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe, starting from he made his debut in 2001 until he took on the responsibility for the captain’s armband.

“We will all be moved when, against Parma, he wears the Giallorossi jersey for the last time and we respect the decision to continue his footballing career, even if, at almost 36 years old, it will be far from Rome.

“On behalf of the whole club, I want to thank Daniele for the extraordinary dedication to the club. The doors of Roma will always remain open for him with a new role at any time he decides to return.”
