Despite Roma having a bid accepted for him, Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella is ready to hold firm and wait for Inter.

The Italian international enjoyed a fine season in Sardinia last term and looked set for the Nerazzurri after weeks of negotiations.

However, a lack of progress appeared to allow Roma to steal a march by having a €35 million offer accepted, with forward Gregoire Defrel included in the deal. Inter, meanwhile, were offering €36m upfront, with a further €4m in future clauses.

The Nerazzurri have been given a glimmer of hope by Barella’s determination to join them though, as La Gazzetta dello Sport claim he is stalling on a decision to join Roma in the hope of Inter making an improved bid.

The 22-year-old is enticed by the project presented by new coach Antonio Conte, as well as the promise of Champions League football.

Whilst Cagliari are reluctant to budge on their decision to reject Inter’s current proposal, Barella’s hesitance to commit to Roma has bought the Nerazzurri time to thrash out a new deal.
