STADIO ARTEMIO FRANCHI (Florence) – A disappointed but proud Vincenzo Montella praised his players after Fiorentina drew 0-0 against Juventus, in particular Gateano Castrovilli, comparing him to Giancarlo Antognoni.

Antognoni is revered in Florence having led Fiorentina to the Coppa Italia in 1975 as well as winning the World Cup with Italy in 1982.

“Franck Ribery has been great in every training, and today gave us something extra,” Montella told the press. “He is a great champion

“Castrovilli has fantastic potential, I really like him. After one training during pre season I decided to take him off the market.

“He is one of the best Italian midfielders in terms of dribbles and resistance. He just needs to score more goals, and could become the heir to Antognoni.”

The Viola coach believes his team needs more time to gel, despite the good performances yielding just one point so far this season.

“I am proud because my team in these first three games did well,” Montella said.

“It is fine to not be consistent as we changed a lot. Give us time to know each other, let the team mates glue together.

“I am disappointed as we created many chances and should have scored.

“It was a brilliant game, with fantastic atmosphere, winning would have been the cherry on the cake.”

Fiorentina lined up with a surprising three at the back, playing without a real centre forward.

“We didn’t work a lot on this system,” Montella explained, “As many players were away during the international break, but the players followed me, and it is very satisfactory for a coach when this happens.”
