Genoa have officially named Thiago Motta as their new coach, with the former Italy midfielder taking over from Aurelio Andreazzoli.

The Italian was sacked early on Tuesday after a poor run of form to start the season, with the Grifone losing six of their last seven matches to sit 19th in the Serie A standings.

Motta has been brought in to steer the ship in the right direction, with reports suggesting he has signed a contract that runs until the end of the season with an option to extend to June 2021.

The 37-year-old retired after the 2017/18 season and spent last season coaching PSG’s Under-19 team.

His time at the French club came to an end over the summer, but he still made news after suggesting he wants to adopt a 2-7-2 formation without a goalkeeper.

Motta played for Genoa during the 2008/09 season before joining Inter, and eventually making his way to PSG.
