Roma are confident that Bryan Cristante will not require surgery on his right abductor injury after he underwent a scan on Friday afternoon.

Cristante suffered the injury in the seventh minute of Roma’s clash with Sampdoria a number of weeks ago. The initial prognosis was worrying and the Italian international was expected to be sidelined for several months, adding further injury problems to an already depleted Giallorossi squad.

The exams carried out on Friday afternoon did not reveal any further complications though and the Roma medical staff are hopeful an operation will not be necessary, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Leading sports doctor Professor Orva, who Cristante visited in Finland prior to the scan, will make the final decision on 24-year-old’s treatment.

Paulo Fonseca is currently relying on defender Gianluca Mancini to plug the holes in the Roma midfield, but the Portuguese coach will be hopeful that Cristante will be available to return to action sooner than expected if the injury doesn’t require an operation.
