Liam Henderson has joined Empoli in Serie B on loan until the end of the season.

Henderson addressed the media following his arrival from Serie A side, Hellas Verona and is very happy to have joined the team that are currently 16th in Serie B.

“I immediately had the impression that they’re a strong team,” Henderson said.

“When my agent called me and told me the offer was there, I accepted without hesitation.”

Henderson arrived in Italy in January 2018 from Scottish champions, Celtic, for a fee of around €135,000 when he joined Bari.

He has grown fond of Italy and he looks to remain in Italy for the foreseeable.

“Against Empoli, I made my debut and I have a great memory of that moment,” Henderson continued.

“I like Italian football and I really like being in Italy.

“The weather is better here, I arrived two years ago and I am very happy to be here.”

Henderson’s time with Bari was short as the club were declared bankrupt.

He joined Hellas Verona and during their first match of the 2019/20 Serie A season, Henderson became the first Scot to play in a Serie A match since Graeme Souness played for Sampdoria back in 1986.

It is believed that Henderson’s deal with Empoli has an option to buy and he will look to help the Tuscan side rise up the table.
