AC Milan director Paolo Maldini believes it’s the Rossoneri’s duty to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma at the club.
The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and while no extension has been agreed on yet, the former Diavolo legend made it clear where he stands.
“There are a lot of things on the table, it’s certainly Milan’s duty to try and keep hold of an important player like Gigio given what he represents as a player and a symbol,” Maldini told DAZN.
“He started in our youth ranks and in my modest opinion he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be a free agent at the end of the current campaign, but Maldini was coy on what the future holds for the Swede.
“Ibrahimovic’s situation is different,” he added. “Ibra’s contract is running down and discussing those terms is different compared to Gigio.”
