Atalanta continued their incredible start to this Serie A season with five more goals in a 5-2 win over Cagliari on Sunday afternoon.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have now scored 13 goals from their opening three games of 2020/21, having put four past both Torino and Lazio with 4-2 and 4-1 wins on the road.

On their return to Bergamo for their first home game of the campaign, La Dea went one better and had four scored by half time.

So impressive is their start, that no side in Europe’s top five leagues have scored at least four goals in their opening three games of a season since Real Madrid in 1987.

Real Madrid ended the 1987/88 season as champions of Spain, while they also reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals and the semi-finals of the European Cup as well.

Los Blancos scored 95 goals in La Liga that season and Hugo Sanchez led their scoring charts with 34 goals.
