Atalanta face a huge task in the Champions League on Wednesday evening as they travel to the home of the Premier League champions and 2019’s European champions, Liverpool.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were thumped 5-0 in the return fixture in Bergamo before the international break, but the coach will be happy to have had important players return since.

Pierluigi Gollini, Marten de Roon and Robin Gosens all missed that first game but each is set to start at Anfield, having played in the weekend’s draw away to Spezia.

The biggest question mark hanging over the Nerazzurri XI is in the attack, where three players are battling for two spaces in the side.

Captain Papu Gomez’s inclusion is as good as guaranteed, meaning that one of Duvan Zapata, Luis Muriel and Josip Ilicic will miss out.

As of Wednesday morning, TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting that Duvan and Ilicic are most likely to feature from the off, with Muriel being readied to make an impact from the bench, as he has done so well since moving to Bergamo.

Atalanta’s expected XI is as follows: Gollini; Rafael Toloi, Cristian Romero, Berat Djimsiti; Hans Hateboer, De Roon, Remo Freuler, Gosens; Papu Gomez; Ilicic, Zapata.
