Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli has confirmed that she has been in contact with Juventus chief of football operations Fabio Paratici over the Luis Suarez’s case but not in relation to the exam.
Paratici is under investigation for perjury as according to prosecutor Raffaele Cantone, he attempted to speed up the procedure in relation to Luis Suarez’s Italian citizenship test and his first move has been a phone call to old friend De Micheli.
De Micheli appeared on ‘Che tempo che fa?’, a tv programme on Rai, and she confirmed the call with Paratici.
“I received a phone call from Paratici,” De Micheli said, “who I’ve known for a very long time and he asked me information that it’s not related to the the exam.
“He informed me that Suarez applied online for citizenship and that the procedure was never fulfilled for unknown reasons. He asked me how to complete it, but as I’m not an expert in this matter we figured it would have been better to ask to someone who deals with this topic.”
Juventus released a statement on Friday regarding the matter: “The Club strongly reiterates the correctness of Paratici’s work and is confident that the ongoing investigations will help clarify his position within a reasonable time”.
