Florentia will not be forming part of the 2021/22 Serie A Femminile season, with the club having been bought out by Sampdoria.
Speculation had surrounded the Tuscan side for a little over a month before the news became official in mid-June, with Florentia president Tommaso Becagli confirming it.
“The agreement to sell out name is official,” Beagle said. “I’d like to thank everyone who took part in this cause. Football isn’t over for me, it starts over again today.”
In San Gimignano, though, there has been a lot of opposition to the sale. Andrea Marrucci, the local mayor, has written to the FIGC protesting the move and the club’s supporters are outraged.
