Fabio Capello believes that Italy need to win Euro 2020 for the fans and referred to the ‘20,000 Italian waiters’ working in London, as the Azzurri prepare for Sunday’s Wembley showdown with hosts England.
The 75-year-old coach reckons that Roberto Mancini’s men need to make every Italy fan proud, but most of all the large amount of Italian natives residing in England, just as his goal had done when Italy defeated England on their own turf in 1973.
“A victory at Wembley would be dedicated to the 20,000 Italian waiters in London, just as the English tabloids had pointed out back then,” Capello told ANSA.
“This year, Gli Azzurri need to think about making not onlt 20,000 happy, but the 700,000 Italians that live there [in England] now.
“It will be important that they [the fans] can be proud and the players need to feel this when they go on the pitch, too”.
