The 48-year-old played for Udinese and Fiorentina amongst others, and was capped once by his country during his career, but believes that his own nation could be facing an uphill battle against the English.
“We need to understand whether or not we’ll show that quality on the night.”
The former defender also reserved special praise for Federico Chiesa ahead of the final on Sunday.
“He’s world-class. He has all the ability and desire of a great player,” Pierini said. “If he improves then he’ll be even better than his father [Enrico].
“I have loads of respect for Enrico and all he has done to help Federico come on as a player until now.”
