Another Serie A season is among us and it should be a year filled with excitement and drama.

With Italy winning Euro 2020, there is an opportunity for those involved in Italian football to capitalise on that euphoria and lure in more admirers.

Unfortunately, some stars such as Romelu Lukaku, Cristian Romero, and Gianluigi Donnarumma have left for foreign leagues, but there are still plenty of talented players ready to prove themselves as well as some fantastic coaches at some of Italy’s biggest clubs.

Here are Forza Italian Football’s five things to watch out for in the 2021/22 Serie A season.

2. The Derby della Capitale – Mourinho vs Sarri

The Roman derby this season should be one of the most highly anticipated in recent memory thanks to Roma and Lazio hiring two high-profile coaches with points to prove in 2021/22.

Roma have hired Jose Mourinho, who is returning to Italian football since he left Inter after winning the treble in 2009/10, and this might be the chance that “The Special One” needs to revive his coaching career after underwhelming spells in charge of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, their city rivals Lazio have hired Maurizio Sarri, who was sacked by Juventus at the end of the 2019/20 season despite winning the scudetto.

The Derby della Capitale will consist of coaches with contrasting styles. Mourinho is known for his conservative approach and his ability to nullify the opposition whereas Sarri will encourage his team to take the initiative and create a spectacle.

Both coaches have their unique mannerisms and idiosyncrasies, which should make their press conferences and interviews worth watching and listening to.
