Another Serie A season is among us and it should be a year filled with excitement and drama.

With Italy winning Euro 2020, there is an opportunity for those involved in Italian football to capitalise on that euphoria and lure in more admirers.

Unfortunately, some stars such as Romelu Lukaku, Cristian Romero, and Gianluigi Donnarumma have left for foreign leagues, but there are still plenty of talented players ready to prove themselves as well as some fantastic coaches at some of Italy’s biggest clubs.

Here are Forza Italian Football’s five things to watch out for in the 2021/22 Serie A season.

5. The Capocanniere race

In Serie A, the leading goalscorer is referred to as the Capocanniere. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the most goals in the 2020/21 season with 29 while Romelu Lukaku was second with 24.

With Lukaku gone, there has to be another one to challenge the Portuguese legend for the capocannoniere crown. Could it be Ciro Immobile from Lazio? He will be chasing his fourth title and playing under Sarri could improve his scoring rate.

Atalanta score goals for fun so could either Duvan Zapata or Luis Muriel outscore everyone else? Roma have signed Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. Can he quickly adapt to the technical and tactical nature of Italian football and score prolifically?

Sassuolo also have some dark horses for the crown, with either Francesco Caputo capable of regaining his form or Giacomo Raspadori taking the next step.

If not them, could there be a surprise contender who blossoms from nowhere?
